Have you made time for a mindset audit?
When’s the last time YOU checked in?
This week’s “blog post” is an email I sent to my community. If you’ve been loving these posts and want to get your eyes on some juicy stories that engage, educate, AND serve as an example on email storytelling, come join us! If you decide it’s not your thing, you can leave at any time 😉
I’ve realized it might be time for an audit.
And no, not to look over the things in my biz…
But to comb through the thoughts in my brain.
Yup, a mindset audit.
I was listening to a podcast episode the other day and she mentioned the serenity prayer.
Apparently it’s pretty popular with both religious and non-religious groups because the idea behind it is pretty universal:
May I have the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
(I like the “non-religious” version because it puts me in control 😏)
The whole point of the episode, and in mentioning this specific quote, was to see where we can simplify our life….
And not necessarily by down-sizing but by “right-sizing” …making sure what we have actually aligns with our needs and goals at this moment.
Whether it’s things in your home, thoughts in your head, how you schedule your day…
The various spaces in our life often become cluttered with what no longer serves us, but sometimes, is hard to let go of.
(Or, we don’t even realize something is holding us back!)
Add this wild world of entrepreneurship into the mix, and all the things inevitably multiply.
Strategies, programs, marketing approaches, courses, books, the 1 million saved articles, podcasts, and blogs you still have yet to dig into…
(me. this it me)
We tend to cling on to so many things because we’ve been told they work or that they’re the “right” way to approach our biz…
But then we get bogged down with EV.ERY.THING that was supposed to make our biz run more smoothly.
So if you’ve ever felt a bit overwhelmed, over-loaded, or just over it…
(also me.)
Maybe it’s time to do an unofficial audit.
Are the things in your life and biz really serving you as they should be?
Or like you thought they would?
And while yes, there are programs or marketing strategies you might be able to get rid of or swap out for something that would work more efficiently…
I really want to encourage you (and me) to focus on a mental audit too.
Because many times, our mindset kind of gets overlooked when we’re so focused on all the tangible things we * think * we need to put our energy on.
So my friend, let’s do a little check in here.
What thoughts and beliefs are you holding about your biz… AND yourself?
Do you find you’re being held back by fear, uncertainty, or all the what-ifs that ultimately hold you back from what you’re absolutely capable of doing?
What if this doesn’t work?
(…but what if it does?)
What if no one finds this helpful?
(…but what if they do?)
What if…
Nope. No more what ifs 🤐
Not only will you NEVER know what happens unless you do it and see (and the outcome is a great lesson either way)...
But also, you’re in full control of how you choose to react to the situation, as difficult as it may be to come to terms with that.
(Trust me, I don’t always like it either 😂)
Can you change the fact something didn’t go as planned?
Nope.
But what CAN you change?
👉🏻 Your mindset about “failing” (because failing means you gave up in the end and… you’re not). You’re learning.
👉🏻 The next step of your plan, based on what you’ve learned, even if that means a complete pivot (and you’re damn brave for doing that)
👉🏻 Your approach to connecting with the right people instead of changing who you are to try and appease everyone (because trying to appeal to everyone means you’ll appeal to no one)
Etc, etc, etc…….
By no means am I perfect, and I definitely don’t get it right every time.
But I know that when we (yes, me included) can start to be more aware of the thoughts and beliefs we hold around different aspects of our life AND biz…
The things we actually can change become a little more clear.
Sometimes, it just takes a shift in how we approach the situation.
And many times, it’s literally all in our head.
Jess
PS - If those what ifs seem paralyzing at times, I get it. I still struggle with them too. And in many cases, a lack of confidence may be the deeper root of what stops us from taking action.
If you need a little confidence boost (or, you know, some ideas to help you gain juuust enough to take that action you’re hesitating on)... check out this post 😊
And remember, you’re not alone. And you’ve got this 💪🏻
